Laminate flooring has made a strong comeback with modern styles that fit today’s aesthetics. It’s no longer that old-school laminate that you were used to seeing in the 70s. It has been revamped as a trendy, durable, and affordable floor that can handle busy home/office traffic.
There are two things to look for when picking a quality laminate floor. The first one is the AC rating since it determines the durability. An AC 3 rating is sufficient for residential use. AC 4 is recommended for light commercial use or heavy residential use. AC 5 is the most durable and is good for heavy commercial use.
The second factor is the thickness of the planks. Thicker planks mean the look and feel of the floor will be more realistic. Thickness can range from 8mm to 14mm. 12mm is considered ideal for most.
Maintaining & cleaning your laminate
Laminate is maintenance-free and doesn’t require sanding, waxing, or any upkeep aside from regular cleaning. Use a vacuum or wipe with a damp mop to keep your floors looking shiny and new. Your mop should never be dripping wet. If your floor is still wet a minute after mopping, you’re probably using too much water.
Tip: Laminate feels especially comfortable under your feet when paired with a padded underlayment. We strongly recommend installing a quality underlayment with your laminate. To learn more about the benefits of investing in an underlayment.
